Adventure Awaits!

This is the start.... tickets booked for Istanbul, Turkey aka Turkiye.  Mom and I are eager and in prep mode. I've finalized the plans with the hospital and they will get me more details as we get closer to our arrival date. This is "medical tourism", something that I had never heard of, but the more I learned, the more I saw the whole picture. There are countries across the world, but only a few offer Medical Tourism. It's a package deal for your care. In our case, their estimated quote not only includes the treatment for both trips (yes, 2 trips to Turkey!), but also the Hotel and the transportation from the airport to the hotel or the clinic / hospital and back. When I compared the cost for the repairs I need to my jaw bone, removing an implant and restoring bone strength in my lower jaw, plus new teeth (Wow, I never could have imagined myself here at 46 years young) I never could have imagined the price comparison would be so crazy! But then again, think about the countless chemo drugs that are $20k per session, the surgeries and other various treatments we have in the US that brings in so much money to the medical industry. I understand that all medical comes with a cost.... but the difference between one country charging $120K VS Another charging $17K? Please make it make sense. 

I could go on about the injustice with the medical system, like why wasn't my dental and oral health as important as my overall health? Why would my insurance only cover removable dentures, which would have never helped me keep my jaw bone, or why did no-one tell me how I could have prevented all of this with a fluoride tray?  Lol. Those are questions that I may never really have answers for, but at least I asked them.
